Cranes on Parade

Cranes on Parade

Cranes on Parade is a project by the Kearney Dawn Rotary Club in Kearney Nebraska. Kearney is the “Crane Capital” of the world. Every year 1 million sandhill cranes migrate through Nebraska, and the sight is not something you want to miss. In an effort to bring color and art to the community as well as solidify our spot as the crane capital, Kearney Dawn Rotary Club started the Cranes on Parade project. 50 artists were chosen from submissions to paint metal cranes that will be mounted to light posts all over Kearney before the next crane migration in March of 2027. I am honored to be one of the artist chosen to paint a pair of cranes for my home town. Meet Night & Day, my pair of cranes for Cranes on Parade.

Night & Day a Juxtaposition

When thinking about what I wanted to submit for the Cranes on Parade project, I loved the idea of doing some sort of juxtaposition with these back to back cranes. Night and Day, sun and moon, stars and daylight, are just a few of my favorite, so I decided to do my own take on these themes.

I have always been a nighttime person, so when creating night I put many elements of myself into the image. Sunflowers and bees, the textures, the colors, all represent elements of who I am. When creating day I wanted it to be through glass. I often spend days inside and view the world through windows, I wanted this crane to represent that. The abstract stained glass is also a nod to my sponsor for this event Tri-County Glass, a local family business in Kearney Nebraska.

Where can you see Night & Day?

My cranes along with 53 other metal cranes by talented artists are on display at Rowe Sanctuary October 23rd 2026 through November 7th 2026. They will then be hung on the light poles around Kearney Nebraska hopefully before March of 2027!
